Jaden Smith's latest album "ERYS"

jaden smith ERYS

Imagine being in the spotlight since the tender age of 8. How do you think you would develop? With almost every move you make being publicly scrutinized and were everyone has an opinion on everything you do. Well this is what Jaden Smith’s life is like. Starting his career in movies in 2006, he didn’t start rapping until 2010 on his first song “Never Say Never” with Justin Bieber, reaching the #8 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and going Platinum 5 times!

With that being said imagine the experiences he’s gone through to affect not only him but his music. Jaden has developed an incredible amount and is finding his own style and voice with his music. Recently Jaden dropped his second studio album ERYS, following his album SYRE which was dropped in 2017. Utilizing a variety of genres he incorporates styles from genres ranging from Punk, Rap, Pop, EDM, and spoken word. This description of the album barely scratches the surface as well.

Dealing with emotions of constantly being in the spotlight, having more attention than the average person, dealing with perpetual judgement from a mass scale, and struggling to find his way. Jaden delivers something I believe a majority of his fans can appreciate and interpret in many ways as well as being able to have replay-ability due to the album’s diversity. The motifs of this album also provide the listener with a wide range of emotions, such as some songs being higher energy, with gritty and slightly muffled audio, allowing for the listener to get lost in the instrumental and have a energetic accompaniment. This album is best experienced in an introspective manner, with a lot of time to reflect on the lyrics Jaden uses and how his slight emphasis can really alter what his message is.

Relying on a close network of his friends and family to assist him with finishing his second studio album Jaden calls on the likes of A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, Kid Cudi, and his own sister Willow Smith! Some of his more popular tracks on this project are K, which features Norwegian artist Lido, Noize, which incorporates Tyler, The Creator, and Summertime in Paris, which he utilizes his sister Willow to compliment him on the track with some singing. Erys is an album with a lot of twists and turns but I believe it is a good direction for Jaden to be going and enjoyed listening to the album!
