Tyler, The Creator’s latest album “IGOR” is an audio experience that invokes the emotional explosion that is love, or more specifically, being in a relationship. However, the album isn't in typical sequential order, rather it sporadically narrates the thoughts and feelings an individual goes through based on the state of their love life. So encompassing, it has a track for nearly any point, from the original start “I think I'm falling in love
This time I think it's for real”(From the track I THINK) to just before the breakup while also alluding to another motif, a female we are told is also his love’s ex, in which he states “Please don't leave me now (I can make her leave)” (off the track NEW MAGIC WAND) he finally wraps it up by stating “My love is gone” and going to the final stage of starting to get over it “Thank you for the love, thank you for the joy, But I will never want to fall in love again” (Both off of the track GONE GONE/THANK YOU)
Tyler explores a new sector of music that shows progression and not only lyrically. From a production standpoint Tyler was much more hands on with this album. Having full production control, Tyler curated it to sound like a fusion of his albums Flower Boy, and Cherry Bomb. Utilizing edm influences and a strong lo-fi feel, IGOR has an ambient and lucid feel to it. Straying from his previously aggressive and controversial style, this is more fluid and has more focus on the entirety of the track, rather than just being a rapper or singer. Tyler strayed away from a more mainstream sound, going for a more relaxed experience. IGOR is still full of beautiful audio artworks, framing the truth behind love. Complex, hard to fully grasp the first or second time, but it leaves you wanting more.
